Super-Powers

I was recently re-ordering this card and it reminded me of when I received the inspiration to create it.  I share this story with you with the intent that it may be helpful to you in some way, especially if you are going through a difficult stretch, a challenge, uncertainty!

I was in between jobs doing some consulting and coaching work a few years ago.  I had quit a job and was exploring possibilities.  One of the benefits was that I could work at my favorite coffee shop.  I was there one day feeling uneasy about the path I was on.  Would the consulting work continue?  Would the coaching engagements turn into long term work?  It was an uncertain time, feeling fearful.

Then, he showed up…the cute single guy from the neighborhood.  He stopped by my table to ask how I was.  It kind of caught me off guard…I bumbled a response that I was trying to sort through my career, and not having a particularly good day.  With care and certainty, he said, “don’t worry, you’ll look back on this 5  years from now and it will all make sense.”  And then off he went.  I smiled and got re-focused on my plan for the day, then jotted down the idea for a card about looking back five years from now to discover you found your super-powers.

Fast forward a few years.  Yes, somehow during that difficult time I was finding my super-powers.  I was succeeding, failing, rising, stumbling, growing, all of it.  Each day was a new adventure.  Here are some super-powers I learned during that time that may be helpful to you to muscle-up on if you are going through a difficulty:

  1. Acceptance:  Accept what is.  Accept the struggle, the failure, the uncertainty, the challenge.  Make peace with it in your mind and heart.  In my meditation, I would often time say “I accept ______” with a hand over my heart.  Don’t fight with it.  Acceptance somehow allows it to pass.  As you accept it, consider what and how you are learning from it.  Acceptance clears the path and allows you to take the next step forward without struggling with what is.
  2. Compassion:  Have compassion for yourself.  Go gently.  There is nothing to gain from being hard on yourself.  Be good to yourself.  Notice if that voice in the head has taken over with negative chatter, observe it, become aware of it.  Don’t let it talk to you that way, it’s the ego.  When you witness and notice the voice in the head, you turn off the volume, and can experience your silent center.
  3. Be Present: Stay present with what can be done right now.  Live in the present, not a month ago, not next month.  Bring your focus to now.  Noticing your breathing can help with this.  The present is truly the foundation for your future.  Take your next steps from the present, be inspired by what action you can take from the present moment.  Take inspired action from the present moment.
  4. Pray Affirmatively:  Affirmative prayer is to say thank you.  Say thank you for what is, say thank you for your footsteps being guided, say thank you for being directed.  Say thank you that what you need is done, muscle up on the certainty that what you need is done.  Say thank you prayers, thanking the universe for coming through, even if it hasn’t quite shown up yet.  Be in gratitude and certainty that all is unfolding in some perfect way.
  5. Surrender:  Let it go.  Surrender it. Take your inspired action, let it go, then let the benevolent universe love you up and support you.  Stop trying to control it.  Surrender your attachment to how your prayer is answered.  Let it go and let the miracle appear.

With whatever you are facing, big or small, you do have super-powers.  Make it a practice to build on them daily.  Find your super-powers…I know you are a superhero.

xo,

Jill
