Neck up living: not on my watch!

I was in a HeartMath® session with a group of executives, and I had this realization. People are living from the neck up. Their experience of moving through life, relationships, conversations, career happens from the neck up. Think, think, think, then think some more. Can you relate?

I’m here tell you, not on my watch!

There is so much more possible when you intentionally wake up and live from a heart, body, brain connection. Let me explain.

First, the heart. We think the heart is just this physical pump that we need to push in cardio. No, it is so much more! Did you that the heart can be activated to wake up to feel feelings of joy, care, appreciation, courage, resilience, and gratitude. And when we focus on the heart and breathe through the heart area, feeling renewing emotions, we actually activate a connection between our heart and brain. It is called heart – brain coherence. When we are in heart – brain coherence it creates what’s called cortical facilitation, and we activate regions of our brain that support creativity, problem solving, critical thinking, communication. This higher performance state can be activated with a daily practice, and exercised throughout the day in meetings and conversations, while working on a project or sending an e-mail. Does that excite you? I hope so!

I’ve spent years partnering with executive coaches in my role at Fortune 200 companies. When I work with a leader in amygdala hijack I say, how about we practice coherence, go for walk, get to yoga, lift that barbell, as Tyler would say “get to the gym” – and then let’s talk! Get into your heart and body for best performance and get ready to experience insights, creativity, ideas, better communication and collaboration.
