Trust your inner inkling

Uncategorized

Saturday mornings are one of my favorite times of the week. For awhile now, I’ve been taking a Bar Bell class at Life Time Southdale that the FABULOUS Maddy teaches. It’s one of those classes that fills up fast, like set your alarm to remind you to register right when it opens – it fills up in minutes!

When Maddy added a 8am Shred class before Bar Bell – I thought, I’m in! For a couple of weeks now I’ve been double-dipping in Shred + Bar Bell = amour, I’m in love.

When I showed up for Shred this morning, and Maddy wasn’t there, I saw the sub and had this inner inkling, “hmmm, what is going on here, should I stay?” I went about my way, got setup with my weights, and still this inner inkling “I’m not sure about this, I wonder if I should stick it out, I should take off, this isn’t looking good.” I texted my gym bro, “what do we know about _________.”

Then it happened, logic kicked in. My brain took over, the whisp of my inner inkling got lost in my thinking mind. My mind said: lock in, you can do this, it will be ok. Until it wasn’t.

Tricep curls with bands? A partner tug of war with a towel in a squat position? I had to leave.

Now, (instructor) may be for some, but not for me. And, my inner inkling was trying to alert me. However, I ignored it. My head took over.

Looking back, I see it clearly, however, in the moment, I dismissed it. It made me wonder, how often do we get a whisp of a inner inkling, and push it aside because our rational thinking mind takes over? So, here’s how I’m going to challenge myself this week, join along:

  • Do you believe in inner inklings? If so, read on.
  • How do inner inklings show up for you? A random thought? A feeling? A nudge to do something or take action? Just pay attention, how is your inner inklings trying to get your attention?
  • What’s your MO? What kicks in and takes over? What stops you from “doing the thing”, following that nudge, paying attention to that inkling? Pay attention to your ways you disregard your inklings.
  • Then, as you start your day, invite in more inklings. “Thank you for that nudge, inkling, guidance on a more exciting, fulfilling, joyful way of living, thanks for the inspiration.” Be in gratitude that we are inspired all the time if we pay attention.
  • Tune into your body during the day. What feels right, good, in the right direction? I particularly like to breathe in and out through my heart area to wake up how I feel about a situation.

I love many of the inklings I do take action on, the phone call, the e-mail, the post, the note, the thank you, the ideas, all the ideas, somedays just blatantly dismissing what’s logical – and following my whimsy, my heart, my knowing feels so satisfying and rewarding.

I believe in you. Start small. Invite it in, pay attention. Stay in touch about your wild successes! Let’s trust our inner inklings just a little more.

Yours in believing, xo,

Jill
