If you’ve been following along, you know my dear co-conspirer Tyler started med school. Tyler is in a process of leveling up, making new commitments. So, I’m going to level up my game too. I’m particularly committed to leveling up my game in the areas of health and creativity.
I have had success in the past when I level up to take a “elimination diet” approach. One of my biggest successes was after the Haiti earthquake. I was following the news of the event, glued to the TV, not sleeping well, when I had this realization – “what am I doing?” “this is so out of my control, why am I spiraling down with all of this?” So, I stopped watching TV! I think that was about 2010! I still catch TV at my parents, or at someone’s house for a sporting event, but I don’t watch it at home. My dad was at my house, and wanted to watch a basketball game, I didn’t even know how to turn my own TV on!
The blessing of the TV elimination diet is that I have all sorts of time for creativity, nature, friends, health. So many great benefits. I sincerely don’t miss it at all.
I have three new things I am focusing on eliminating. 1) Spending less time on Instagram at the end of the day, and reinvesting that time in creativity or reading. It’s going really well, especially with my top reels source (Tyler) not sending as many funny reels! 2) I also want to eliminate alcohol. I am really close. I drink at happy hours, but I’m ready to cut that out! I love to feel good on the weekends, so this one is becoming easier for me. Even just 1-2 glasses impacts me for weekend activity. 3) This is the toughest one, eliminate my Kowalski runs! Folks, I live close to this lovely grocery store, and spend way too much money on delicious honey, spreads, lunch, fizzy drinks. This will be the toughest one.
Are you ready to level up? Is there something not of service to your best? Maybe a job? A person? A toxic conversation habit? On line news? There are all sorts of possibilities.
What I know about elimination diets is that sometimes you don’t know what is going to fill the space, so it can be hard to give it up. But what I know for sure is that if you let go of what doesn’t serve your best, a healthy way forward will fill it in. Have the courage to give it up before you know what will fill in the space.
When I have successes with these kind of commitment, I am filled with more fulfillment, satisfaction, joy, it has so many ripple effects.
I’d love to hear about your elimination diet! Affirming the very best of eliminating what no longer serves you, so the very best you can emerge!

Jill
