Enter Sandman

Dear Friends. The world took me to my knees last week. Wiped out, on so many levels. Work, relationships, state of the world, Annunciation community school, Security Guard at Kowalski’s shot and killed a month ago, (reminded of him on my runs, not shot at Kowalski’s, but in Minneapolis), friend with terminal cancer. It was too much.

Think, only way to be with this, going to bed at 8 each night and sleeping, sleeping, sleeping.

But as my wise friend Marci certainly says to me. It will be revealed. No need to rush through this, just rest my dear friend, rest dear friend, and what is meant to be known from all this, it will be revealed. Rest, rest, rest.

The weekend comes. Thank you God. I sleep, I spend time with my terminal cancer friend, I eat protein, I go to barbell…

It’s Sunday morning, I’m at 8:30am barbell class, and the playlist is blasting a version of Enter Sandman. May the lesson be revealed.

Here’s what it is for me folks. We are living in crazy times, it’s brave to go out in the wild everyday. There is so much chaos, and I know when emotions are high, our amygdala’s are hijacked, and our brain is literally hijacking us from not being our best selves. It makes it even worse.

So what is my lesson? My lesson is it’s totally fair to rest, to take a long rest as needed. Rest, rest, rest. And then, it’s time to rise again.

We are all going to have times when we are brought to our knees. And when we do, we need to Honor it with a capital H, for sure. Let it take you down, let it wipe you out, let it make you question it all. Honor being on your knees. Honor it, it’s holy for sure. Don’t resist it one bit. Being on your knees is a perfect place for prayer. When you are on your knees, say a prayer that every juicy lesson that is meant to be revealed with be revealed. I know for sure when we are brought to our knees, there is something holy happening.

Then know, there’s a time to be on your knees, and there is a time to rise up, to find that inner and outer strength. We need you, no doubt, with a capital W – We need you. We need you to Honor rising again.

For me lately, practicing outer strength helps me to rise. My outer strength fuels my inner strength. Lifting heavy, experiencing failure, strengthening my muscles gives me fortitude, calms the chaos, cares for my amygdala, fuels my inner fire, and sets me on a trajectory of focus and purpose. So grateful. Thank you Enter Sandman.

So whatever may be bringing you to your knees, please Honor it. Pray your truth will be revealed, and know it will be met with you rising up stronger, wiser, calmer, purposeful, clearer, honest. Rising up in your strength is an Honor. It’s an Honor to be here right now, honoring the time on your knees, honoring the time in your strength for your work in this moment.

Enter Sandman friends.

With so much care,

Jill
