Be a good weapon

I know I write about Tyler often, he is one of my greatest teachers! One of the things he’ll say when I’m checking in with him is “I’m a weapon mom”, or “be a good weapon mom!” So, I’m putting this coaching into practice. Let me explain.

I’m practicing how I can “be a good weapon” with my life. This world is crazy. So much happening that is really out of our control. I am committing to doing everything within my control to “be a good weapon“, and not spiral around in worry, fear, or concern.

It’s actually going extremely well! Each week, typically Sunday night, I get locked into how I’m going to “be a good weapon” for the week. I have a working list of focus areas or intentions for the week ahead. Where I can, I schedule it into my week. I love having a calendar filled with practices, actions, conversations of being a “good weapon”. This is all in my control, regardless of what is happening in the world!

My focus areas include my health routine (exercise and nutrition), work mindset and contribution, family, friends, special occasions, finances, creativity, learning. Then I’m old school with my planner, I really like a paper planner where I can pencil in how I’m giving attention to these important focus areas.

Do I get off track? Of course! But it’s a game of ratios for me. If I can go a week with more time in my focus areas, not perfect, but a better ratio – I’ve won the week! And, I’m particularly interested in the triggers that get me off track, and want to catch myself before I spiral down. I am on the lookout for the triggers, see them coming, and always learning about them!

Folks, we can easily get overwhelmed by news and events, by figures. How much of our time should we focus on these things? I’m embracing the belief that if I can “be a good weapon” in my corner of the world, I can have a ripple effect of creating a little more peace, joy, health, creativity, and possibility for those around me.

If you are interested in starting a “be a good weapon” practice, let me know! I’m all in to help you develop a practice of identifying your focus areas based on your core values, your life roles, your vision – it’s helpful to do some big picture thinking, then hone in on what you want to focus on each week. Grab some time on my calendar, let’s chat: https://jilldianesaunders.com/schedule.

Friends, when I focus on what I can control, I live a healthier more resilient and joyful life. Let me know if this is on your mind and heart too, I’d love to help!

Be a good weapon,

Jill
